Good Jobs & Shared Prosperity

It’s time to invest in us.

It’s time to unlock the grit, ingenuity, and hard work of everyone in Albuquerque. A prosperous city requires safety and security, so making our streets safe and our housing stable are vital first steps. Still, we must build toward a better future at the same time. A prosperous Albuquerque is one where everyone can better themselves and their community, where hardworking people get ahead, where jobs provide livable wages, the opportunity to advance, and the ability to balance work and family.

It's time to support
small businesses.

Small businesses are the incubators of great ideas and generators of generational success. As Mayor, Alex will cultivate entrepreneurs, remove barriers to early success, and foster a customer-service model in City Hall that supports new growth.

  • Develop small-business incubators that offer a workspace to learn and develop practical and business skills

  • Facilitate small-business networks where entrepreneurs can network and find mentorship and investors

  • Build a customer-service based approach to support entrepreneurs in navigating funding, approvals, and requirements

  • Speed up inspections and permitting

It's time to invest in
our future.

We cannot wait for a future to find us; we have to proactively grow the next generation of workers, builders, leaders, and developers, and to invest in the green future of our City. As Mayor, Alex will invest in our youth and job training for all, recognizing that every role plays a part in our community’s success.

  • Incorporate city-supported jobs and internships into high-school curricula

  • Establish a senior-level liaison to APS in order to expand after school options, mental health support, and infrastructure like safe walking routes to schools

  • Build partnerships with trade unions and educational centers to expand apprenticeships and develop robust trade schools in critical areas like computer science, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general contracting

  • Establish a city-wide job corps that specializes in green infrastructure, construction, treatment, and public works

  • Pre-approved solar panel plans for small-scale residential and business installation

  • A Municipal Solar Authority to support the infrastructure for a city that has always grown under our sun

  • Extend hours for public services like parks, community centers, and pools.
  • Invest in after-school programming and the infrastructure necessary like extended transit hours so our kids have things to do in afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
It's time to revitalize
Downtown.

As Mayor, Alex will invest in the heart of our city, and the transit that connects it to the rest of Albuquerque.

  • Build a walkable mixed-use neighborhood downtown (and at other city centers), as well as along transit lines. Combine residential, commercial, and recreational spaces so people can live, work, and play in their own neighborhood

  • Support a major entertainment venue and other public attractions to anchor the Downtown corridor

  • Take advantage of the 22 current Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas throughout the city to cut through bureaucratic regulations and facilitate growth along our transit corridors to build an integrated city linked through Downtown
